Asked Questions
What is a writing rally?
A
writing rally is different from a young authors' conference in several
ways:
- The
rally is designed for very young children who are in the beginning
stages of developing their writing skills.
- Emphasis
is placed on the "creating a story" process then writing
and illustrating "your" story then binding it into a book.
- Focus
is on the parent/child relationship instead of the teacher/child.
Who may attend the rally?
Any child
who is in grades P-6 (or that age group) and accompanied by a parent
or other adult may attend. There is a $16 registration fee per child.
This fee includes a rally t-shirt, button, and all writing materials.
Accompanying parents are free! Teachers are welcomed as observers, presenters
or parents.
What are the activities?
The first
fifty minutes of the rally are spent with the author who shares his/her
work to the delight of children and adults. The next two hours are spent
in small groups creating, illustrating and sharing a story or poem.
Each group will be led by trained presenters.
Some 4th
graders will be assigned to computer sessions on a first-come-first-serve
basis. If you are a 4th grader and desire to write your book on the
computer, indicate so on the registration form.
How many children can attend the rally?
There
is no limit to the number of children from any school. However, the
facilities can only accommodate 800+ children and 800+ adults so there
may be a registration cut off on a first come, first serve basis. We
have never cut off registration even though we have gone over 800 childeren
serveral times.
What if there is more than one child from
a family attending?
Families with more than one child attending will be registered for
the same time period (either 8:30 or 11:00 AM). The registration fee
for the Writing Rally is $17.00.
